33 Alfred St - Facade construction

Once Sydney’s first skyscraper, the 33 Alfred St building is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar refurbishment, with its façade construction well underway. AMP Capital is investing in a premium upgrade that will enhance the building’s appearance and performance.

Originally built in 1962, the heritage-listed building is an iconic part of Sydney’s harbour skyline. Now undergoing a significant refurbishment, the building is set to feature enhanced environmental performance while preserving its architectural heritage.

Designed by JPW (Johnson Pilton Walker) and constructed by BUILT, the redevelopment includes a striking new façade currently being installed by Austech Facades. The façade envelope, engineered by Inhabit Group and Austech, comprises unitised modules, pre-assembled off-site and then installed to ensure precision and efficiency.

A collaboration between Frontek and Koninklijke Tichelaar B.V. supplies the façade's porcelain cladding. Frontek panels, glazed with Tichelaar’s custom finishes, create a unique and visually captivating exterior. The design features a dynamic interplay of light, contributing to the building's modernized yet timeless aesthetic.

Congratulations to the entire installation team—the result will be nothing short of outstanding, setting a new standard in façade design and execution while honouring the building’s historic significance.
